S1.E2.P1. – “Problem”- Identifying the problem to be solved

The Journey So Far...

In Episode 1, fueled by creative chaos and the effervescence of innovative ideas, the squad dove into the entrepreneurial journey with great enthusiasm but little direction. Driven by passion and intuition, they faced the common challenge of many nascent startups: a disorganized approach and lack of clear method, which often leads to failure.

Recognizing the need for experienced guidance to channel their creative energy, the team sought refuge in the #CreativeInnovators incubator, where they found in Dex, the mentor, the compass they needed. Now, with a structured environment and methodical support, they are ready to turn their creative momentum into a tangible plan, embarking on the journey to develop their MVP with a more disciplined and focused approach

The squad from the innovation journey decided to link up with the #CreativeInnovators incubator, this dope hub known for dropping startups that really shake things up in Creative City.

When they got there, they were met by Dex, this mentor who’s got a rep for flipping cool ideas into game-changer businesses, all with his warm and inspiring vibe.

Dex dropped some real talk on the crew about how crucial it is to pinpoint the problem you’re gonna solve when you’re starting a startup that’s really gonna stand out.

“A startup that really makes waves is one that’s solving real problems with fresh solutions. It’s not just about the hustle; it’s about connecting with the people you wanna reachDex explained.

He stressed that picking the right problem should be all about connecting with a specific crowd, the folks your startup aims to help out by easing their struggles and challenges.

Feeling amped up by Dex’s insights, the crew got into a deep brainstorm: what’s the problem they’re really gunning to solve?

To get things rolling, Dex suggested a hands-on exercise.

Let’s get it: first up, nail down the problem your startup’s gonna tackle. Then, let’s figure out who’s feeling the heat from it the most and how we can switch things up for them.

Wait!

Digging the story? Getting the vibe? Let’s go to  the lesson!

Identifying the Problem to Solve

Welcome to Lesson 1 of Episode 2!

In this class, we're diving into the heart of any successful startup.

Identifying a real and meaningful problem is the first step to creating a solution that people truly need and want. Let’s get into how you can find that sweet spot and kickstart your startup journey.

Introduction

The Importance of a Well-Defined Problem

Community Connectivity

Every successful startup begins with a clear mission: solving a specific problem for a specific group of people.

Access to Local Services

Without a solid problem, it’s like building a house without a foundation – it ain’t gonna hold up.

Step 1

Spotting the Issue

Observation and Research

Start by checking out what’s up in the world around you. Talk to people, hit up online forums, read the latest trends.

Empaty with the User

What’s bugging folks, what’s missing, what do they really want? Put yourself in their shoes. What are their daily struggles and how does it affect them?

Step 2

Validating the Problem

Target Audience Interviews

Directly engage with potential users. Interviews can reveal valuable insights into the nature and depth of the problems they face.

Market Research

Use market research tools to better understand the scale and context of the problem. This may include competitor analysis, surveys, and focus groups.

Step 3

Defining the Problem

Clear Problem Statement

Based on your research and validation, define the problem clearly and concisely. A good problem statement should reflect the needs and pains of your target audience and explain why it’s important to solve it.

User-Centered Approach

Make sure the problem is user-centered. The problem you choose to solve should be significant to your target audience, not just to you.

Practical Move: ID Problem

Spot a Problem

Pick an area you’re into and spot a specific problem you think your startup can solve. Use what we’ve talked about to make sure it’s legit.

Craft a Problem Statement

Then, write up a clear statement and drop it in the class forum for some feedback.

Conclusion

Finding the right problem to solve is key to the success of any startup. When you dedicate yourself to this early on, you build a solid foundation to develop your solution, your value proposition, and ultimately, your company.

It's time to discover what problem your startup will solve!

Time to dive into that idea!

So, what's up next?
